Requests for Summer Federal Loans
Please note there is a separate/additional process for requesting federal loans for the summer semester. To be eligible for federal loans for the summer semester, you must be enrolled in a degree program, registered for a minimum of six credits, or be completing a required Clinical Experience that summer. In addition, you must have a current/upcoming year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with Boston University. Boston University’s FAFSA code is 002130. If you are a first-time borrower of Federal Direct Unsubsidized and Graduate PLUS loans, please note you must complete Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note (MPN). Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans and Graduate PLUS Loans have separate MPNs.
To request federal loans for the summer semester, please complete and submit the appropriate form(s) below. Updated summer forms typically become available in late March each year:
- Summer 2021 Federal Direct Loan Fact Sheet for Graduate Students
- Summer 2021 Direct PLUS Loan Fact Sheet for Graduate Students
You may submit your loan request after you register for summer classes. Please allow two weeks of processing time for the loan to be in place by the tuition deadline.
Requests for Summer Federal Work-Study
The Federal Work-Study program helps find employment for students who demonstrate financial need (as determined by FAFSA). Jobs may be available for eligible students in the University and at off-campus nonprofit agencies. To apply for summer work-study funds, a separate Sargent College Graduate Summer Work-Study Application is required and can be found in Forms and Resources.
