Career Options

Nutrition Science

With a bachelor of science degree in Nutrition, Nutrition Science track, you can:

  • apply to medical, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, dental, or veterinary school
  • apply to graduate programs in any of the life sciences or in public health
  • apply to advanced degree program in nutrition and dietetics to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
  • pursue entry-level employment in the biomedical sciences, education, research, public health, or the pharmaceutical or communications industries

Dietetics

With a bachelor of science degree in Nutrition, Dietetics track, you can sit for the Diet Technician Registered exam to become a credentialed DTR. Learn more about becoming a DTR. You can earn the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential (after completing an advanced degree and ACEND-accredited supervised practice experience and passing the national registration exam). You can then pursue employment in:

  • hospitals (inpatient and outpatient care)
  • private practice
  • research
  • industry
  • culinary nutrition
  • community nutrition
  • public health
  • education
  • consulting to sports teams, restaurants, and corporations
  • food service management
  • communications and media

Or, you might continue your education in graduate school for a career in nutrition or public health.

Nutrition & Health

A bachelor of science degree in Nutrition, Nutrition & Health track will prepare you for a career that combines nutrition with public/global health, mass communications, nutrition for exercising populations, or nutrition and health promotion. The curriculum includes courses in basic science, nutrition, food, along with courses in an area of concentration. Career opportunities include:

  • public relations agencies
  • business
  • public health organizations or community
  • media outlets
  • food industries
  • health and fitness centers

Or, you might want to continue your education in graduate school for a career in nutrition or public health. An advanced degree program, such as the BU DPD/MS+DI program is an option for those who aspire to become an RDN.
