Sargent Undergraduate Advising Model

All undergraduate students at Sargent College will be advised by a professional academic advisor who is a staff member in the Sargent College Academic Services Center (ASC) dedicated to undergraduate student advising. Your academic advisor’s name appears on MyBU Student. Your Academic Advisor will be a primary point of contact and provide guidance on:

  • Degree requirements, including BU Hub requirements.
  • Your schedule plan for a term
  • Academic difficulty or academic probation
  • University resources
  • Navigating Double Majors, the Dual Degree Program, Minors, Intra University Transfer, Study Abroad, transfer credits, etc.
  • Possible personal and social issues

Additionally, you will be assigned to a faculty mentor who is in the department of your major. This faculty member will be listed on MyBU Student as your faculty mentor.  Your program will provide more information about your faculty mentor’s role, but it will generally focus on:

  • Professional/educational mentoring
  • Information about the major and potential career paths
  • Potential internships and career guidance
  • Research and experiential opportunities
  • Specific major classes to help a student progress towards their educational and professional goals
  • Potential networking connections with colleagues and alumni
