Animal Operations Update: Protocol Numbers
This spring, BU’s Animal Science Center will be rolling out a new and improved electronic system, Animal Operations (AOps), to request animals, imports, exports, and veterinary services; reserve procedure space and equipment; and much more. The Animal Operations system will be integrated with the IACUC system. Both are part of the Huron Research Suite. In preparation for that transition we are going to begin using the new protocol numbers exclusively instead of the old legacy protocol numbers.
Beginning Monday, December 2, please ensure that all animal orders are submitted with your Click Protocol number (PROTO2019xxxxxxxx). Cage cards for new orders will be created using the new number. As existing cages are weaned or separated, the new protocol numbers will be used on those cards as well. We expect that by the time we go live with AOps, all cage cards will have transitioned to the new numbers.
Researchers, please pass this information on to members of your lab to ensure that they are using the new numbers and are not confused by this change when they use the ASC facilities.
Thanks for your time and attention during this period of transition. We’ll continue to share details and updates as we have them. Please send questions or feedback to Laurel Whalen at lawhalen@bu.edu or 617-358-8199.
