Funding Opportunity: Massachusetts Life Sciences Center Capital & Women’s Health Programs

The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) supports innovation, research and development, commercialization, and manufacturing in the fields of biopharma, medical devices, diagnostics, and digital health. MLSC is now accepting applications for this year’s Capital & Women’s Health Programs with a deadline of 5 pm on Friday, November 17.

Funding ranges from up to $300,000 to $5,000,000, depending on the program:

  • Bits to Bytes: Grants for scientific projects that generate and analyze large datasets to answer pressing life science questions, and to attract and train data scientists in the Commonwealth.
  • Novel Therapeutics Delivery: Supports translational projects to address complex challenges in “therapeutic” delivery—from biomanufacturing, to targeted delivery, to biomaterials and more.
  • Research Infrastructure: Grants for capital projects that catalyze the life sciences ecosystem by accelerating life sciences research and development in the Commonwealth.
  • First Look Awards: Supports early-stage exploratory translational research at Massachusetts research institutions that furthers our understanding of sex and gender differences, especially for diseases or conditions that affect women solely, disproportionately, or differentially.
  • Innovation Grants: Supports projects with translational potential and preliminary supporting data, but still require a key set of proof-of-concept experiments prior to attracting a commercial partner or spinning out into a new company.
  • Women’s Health Collaboration: Supports collaborative projects that aim to improve the discovery, technical innovation, and/or analysis of datasets to answer pressing life science questions around women’s health.

BU SUBMISSION PROCESS:

  • Bits to Bytes and the Women’s Health Collaboration Programs require an industry partner. Please reach out to BU Industry Engagement to help identify and facilitate these industry partnerships.
  • For assistance with proposal development, please contact BU Foundation Relations at ofr@bu.edu.
  • All proposals must be submitted to BU Sponsored Programs per their proposal submission policy and well in advance of the submission deadline.

There are no limits to the number of proposals BU can submit so there is no internal review process. PIs/project teams are limited to one application per grant.
