OBJECTIVES:

The purpose of the grant is to increase the capacity of Kenyan business owners with disabilities to do business with the United States and improve the business environment for disabled people.  The project implementers will identify people with disabilities who own small- and medium-sized enterprises and train them in business skills, provide formal networking and mentorship programs, and hold a business plan competition.  The project must include connections to U.S. businesses, either with U.S. companies operating in Kenya, American businesspeople and mentors, U.S. business organizations or guilds, and/or virtual interactions with U.S. businesses.  Project implementers are encouraged to use American Corners in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru and Lamu where applicable.

 

FUNDING INFORMATION: $50,000

 

ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS:

Cost sharing is not required but is considered favorably

 

INTERNAL SELECTION PROCESS:

Interested investigators should submit the following materials via InfoReady Review by DATE: 3/18/2020

  • Questions outlined in InfoReady Review application;
  • A brief statement (up to 2 pages) by the candidate describing their achievements and proposed project including a list of any potential partner organizations;
  • A brief budget outline for the proposed research
  • Up-to-date CV or biosketch.

 

A faculty committee will review internal proposals and select nominees.
