OBJECTIVES:

Component A: Natural Experiment Research Centers to support a 5-year multicenter network of independent research centers to evaluate innovative, health system and non-health system-based natural experimental approaches that alter the diabetogenic characteristics of US communities. Applicants must select only one of the following two tracks:

Track 1 Evaluation of population-level programs or policies that affect population-level risk factors for type 2 diabetes (such as diet or physical activity, as well as other health behaviors; glucose; prediabetes), or

Track 2 Evaluation of programs or policies aimed at improving care and management of diabetes, and the risk for diabetes complications.

 

Component B: Coordinating Center to provide organizational, logistic and communication support to enhance the efficiency, productivity, and public health impact of the Natural Experiments research centers that are funded as part of Component A.

 

FUNDING INFORMATION:

Component A: Natural Experiment Research Centers, the estimated funding per award in the first budget year is $450,000 (direct and indirect).

Component B: Coordinating Center, the estimated funding per award in the first budget year is $250,000 (direct and indirect).

 

ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS:

Only one application per institution (normally identified by having a unique DUNS number) per component is allowed. If an applicant organization intends to apply to more than one component in this NOFO, the applicant must submit separate applications for each component. To be funded for Component B, applicants must apply for and be funded for Component A. The PI for Component A may be different from the PI for Component B.

 

INTERNAL SELECTION PROCESS:

Interested investigators should submit the following materials via InfoReady Review by DATE: 1/3/20

  • Questions outlined in InfoReady Review application;
  • A letter of recommendation from the appropriate department chair or dean
  • A brief statement (up to 2 pages) by the candidate describing their scientific achievements and proposed project including a clear statement of which component/track is being proposed, a list of key personnel, and a clear overview of the research plan (if applicable);
  • A brief budget outline for the proposed research
  • Up-to-date CV or biosketch.

 

A faculty committee will review internal proposals and select nominees.
