Interfolio
What is Interfolio?
Interfolio is a software system that assists Boston University faculty and administrators in the submission of tenure and promotion applications, the collection of external evaluation letters, and the assembly/review of candidates’ dossiers. Interfolio was adopted by BU in AY 2024/25, and the entire tenure and promotion process will be conducted within the system starting in Academic Year 2025/26.
Why are we changing? Why Interfolio?
- Need for universal system for case assembly and review
- Much of the process was conducted by emailing materials, which is not sustainable or secure
- Interfolio is a well-respected vendor in higher ed and is used by many of our peer institutions (notably The Ohio State University)
- Potential for future integrations with Interfolio’s FAR module, so annual review data can be used for T&P review
What is not changing?
- AY 2024/25 Promotion to Full Professor cases will still be submitted/reviewed using our old process
- AY 2024/25 T&P to Associate Professor cases will still be submitted/reviewed using our old process up until submission to Provost’s Office
- Tenure and promotion requirements will remain the same
- Forms and templates will remain the same for now
- Department/College meeting and voting practices will still be handled by those individual units
- Deadlines set by Faculty Handbook will remain the same
What is changing?
- Starting with AY 2025/26 cases, cases will be submitted/reviewed entirely within Interfolio
- Submission of candidates’ application materials
- External letter solicitation/collection process
- Automated dossier assembly
- Centralization/standardization of review workflow
- Review of dossiers
- Upload of reports (Chair, APT, Dean, UAPT)
