Actions Taken by the University Council during the Spring 2025 Semester

The Boston University Council held four meetings during the spring 2025 semester on February 18, March 18, April 15, and May 13. At these meetings, the council voted to approve the following policies, also available on the University Council website (Kerberos protected):

  • Revised Suspension or Termination for Cause Policy (Faculty Handbook)provides examples of conduct that may be considered “gross neglect of duty or other applicable cause” to suspend or terminate a faculty member; also harmonizes with the University’s new Fitness for Duty Policy
  • Revised Code of Student Responsibilitiesmodernizes the code and updates violations (including doxing or unauthorized recording) to align with current student needs and evolving campus challenges; also enhances procedural transparency, introduces an alternate restorative justice option for certain violations, and rebrands the Office of Judicial Affairs as the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution. 

The council also voted during the spring 2025 semester to approve the following degree and certificate programs:

  • Master in the Study of Law (LAW)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, with specialization in materials and nanoscience (CAS)
  • Certificate in Professional Pastry Arts (MET)
  • Graduate Certificate in Wine Studies, Professional Certificate in Wine Studies (MET)
  • Master of Science in Construction Management and Technology (MET)
  • Graduate Certificate in Construction Management (MET)
  • PhD in Community Health Sciences (SPH)
  • Combined Master or Doctor of Science in Dentistry in Dental Biomaterials with Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Prosthodontics (GSDM)
  • Combined Master or Doctor of Science in Dentistry in Applied Biomechanics with Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Prosthodontics (GSDM)
  • PhD in Business Economics (Questrom)
  • Joint Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Science in Business Analytics (Questrom)

President Gilliam has concurred with these actions, which officially brings them into effect.
