Travel Awards
Photonics Center students who travel to conferences to give an oral or poster presentation are eligible to receive a travel award up to $750. This award is open to students whose research advisor is a member of the Photonics Center faculty. After winning such an award, the student will not be eligible for support again in the same academic year. Read more here.
Community
Photonics Center PhD students will have new opportunities for group discussions, socials, journal clubs, and networking.
Professional Development Opportunities
Photonics Center PhD students will gain experience and meet leaders in their field while planning Annual Photonics Symposia, Lunch and Learn seminars, and career events. Students recently planned a full-day event with university speakers, alumni speakers, a poster session, and a career fair.
Career Planning and Professional Development is also available through the BU Graduate Education office. There are many resources including workshops and professional events, drop-in office hours, a Vitamin PhD podcast, professional development grants and more. Read more
Science Communications Training
Photonics Center PhD students will receive science communications training.
Shared Facilities
Students can use our Optoelectronic Processing Facility, Precision Measurement Laboratory, TIB/FEM facility following completing the required training.
Student Leadership Committee
Students can participate in the Student Leadership Committee and run for elected positions in the BU chapter of Optica/SPIE.
