Interns with Environment America help the organization educate and engage citizens on the most critical environmental issues of our time. Interns help the organization to get their issues into the media, build coalitions, organize events and lobby decision-makers. Ultimately, interns help Environment America build the kind of public support it takes to win. This Fall, they’re looking for interns to work on their campaign to win commitments to 100% renewable energy from colleges and universities across the country. Environment America knows that the country needs to transition completely away from fossil fuels in order to avoid the worst effects of climate change, and that the U.S. can’t continue to produce and consume energy in ways that do lasting damage to our environment and our health. The good news is that renewable energy technology has improved radically over the past two decades, and today, wind, solar and geothermal power have the potential to power America. Colleges and universities, as self-contained communities, large energy consumers, and important institutions in their host towns, cities and states, are particularly well-suited to lead the transition to clean power. Working with administrators, faculty and students across the country, Environment America works to push universities to raise the bar by making bold commitments to move away from fossil fuels.
