Integrated photonicsPhotonic Integrated Circuits

What we do:  Create photonic on-chip technologies, from fundamental investigations through to applications.  We invent new photonic devices and circuits, and demonstrate new photonic and electronic-photonic circuits and systems on a chip.  Project may span theoretical mathematical physics, computational physics/engineering and scientific programming, device design and simulation, chip design and layout, device fabrication (including use of in-house cleanroom facilities or state-of-the-art semiconductor foundries), packaging and proof-of-concept system building, and experimental studies and demonstrations.

Why it matters: Photonic integrated circuit technologies are enabling new capabilities in: optical communication for data centers, AI processors, and RF/wireless networks (including mobile communication, sensing and radar); imaging and lidar; quantum information processing; biomedical and chemical sensing; new paradigms for computing.
