Sara Leski, ECMO Manufacturing Leader at Abiomed

Sara Leski, a former LEAP student, graduated from Boston University in 2018 with a Master’s degree of Manufacturing Engineering. While completing her last two semesters at BU, Sara was fortunate enough to be accepted as an Abiomed co-op manufacturing and engineering student. Through one of Sara’s previous work experiences, she made a friend that connected her with Abiomed, where she still works now. In 2012, Sara graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Design and Environmental Analysis at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. At Abiomed, Sara is able to combine both of her degrees, which she believes is a strong suit that sets her and other LEAP students and graduates apart from other engineers. Sara plans to continue working for Abiomed and her work has expanded towards a project and production management role. She is looking forward to gaining more leadership skills, building her own team and leading a production line.

Sara says:
“It’s really powerful to be able to showcase your past degree and career and build it into engineering because it sets LEAP students apart from the rest of the crowd. It may look unusual to somebody who’s interviewing candidates, but I think it makes you stand out. If you can show that you have the technical background that all engineering candidates have, LEAP students have the ability to bring something else to the table, you have life experience and another perspective others don’t have, which is what makes this program really unique.”
