Course Description

This first-year experience course introduces students to Boston University, the College of Engineering, and the field of engineering. Students meet with faculty and student advisors and attend lectures to broaden their knowledge of the inner workings of the College and to gain a better understanding of engineering as a discipline and the ethical responsibilities of an engineer. Includes academic policies, special programs and support services.

General Course Information

EK 100 meets weekly on Fridays from 3:35-4:25pm, alternating between large group and small group sessions. The large group sessions (Lectures) meets MOR 101. The schedule for large and small group sessions can be found above. Section numbers, leaders and locations are included with EK100 Discussion Assignments.

Course Expectations

  • Attendance: Attendance is mandatory and will be taken in all large and small group sections. You must attend the entire class to receive attendance credit. In the event that extenuating circumstances prevent you from attending class, it is your responsibility to notify your Student Advisor. Late arrivals will be considered absences.
  • Faculty Advisor Meetings: You are required to meet with your faculty advisor outside of class. These two appointments are to be made in advance and should take place in your faculty advisor’s office. Do not miss these meetings.
    • Mid-Semester Assessments, 9/30 – 10/4: The goal is to discuss your academic progress.
    • Pre-Registration Advising, 10/28 – 11/1: The goal is to discuss your course selection for the spring semester.
  • Student Advisors (SA): You are encouraged to keep regular communication with your Student Advisor. Your SA is a resource for you throughout the semester.
  • Email: You are expected to check your Boston University email account once a day (at least) for information about the University, the College, EK 100 and specific instructions from course professors.
