Dr. Michael S. Richards completed our Quantitative Biology & Physiology Training Program, graduating with a Ph.D. from the College of Engineering in 2007. He is now an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology. (CV)
His current role is teaching and research; he is continuously trying to improve content delivery and instruction of my courses: Systems Physiology I (Quantitative Physiology) and Introduction to Medical Imaging. Michael is also doing research in methods to improve prognostic and diagnostic metrics for musculoskeletal disease or injury using ultrasound imaging.
While teaching experience might have been helpful for his time in the QBP program, he appreciated the flexibility to explore and find a research area that best suited him. The course work particularly in quantitative physiology, biorheology, and digital signal analysis were most valuable.
About his experience, Michael said “I am incredibly thankful for my time at BU and the BMES department. It was overwhelmingly a positive experience.” Some of his favorite memories included: studying for my qualifying exam with my other classmates, the social hour with the graduate students and other faculty at the end of the week, and the BME department retreat.
