Seeking students to participate in a nationwide study

Dear Students,

We are conducting interviews as part of a national research study (IRB-20-0124) to explore aspects of experience, identity, or personality that are often not known or are misunderstood by professors or peers in engineering classroom settings. The end goal of this study involves building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment in engineering. As a student, you are in an ideal position to give us valuable firsthand information from your perspective.

With this in mind, we are seeking around 20 engineering students to participate in one or more one-on-one virtual or in-person interviews that will last approximately 60 minutes.

Do I qualify to participate? You are eligible to participate in this study if you:

  1. are 18 years old or older
  2. are enrolled in an engineering or computing degree program

The experiences you share in these interviews may turn into a script that will not reveal your identity and may be re-recorded to become the basis of audio resources presented to faculty to help them better understand students’ experiences.

I’m interested, so what do I need to do?

If you are interested in participating in this study, please fill out and submit the following survey:https://usu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cObJZvL670PCwjY, to provide your contact details and schedule information. You will have an opportunity to review more information on the study and sign the consent form before the start of the interview. To thank you for your assistance, you will receive a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of the interview. Participation is entirely voluntary and confidential; your responses may be used in research published in professional journal articles, but your identity will not be revealed to anyone outside of the research team.
