MSE PhD candidate to advance healthcare

By Aaron Ye (COM ’19)

Alexander Saeboe is a Materials Science Engineering PhD candidate and BUnano fellow. Professor Allison Dennis (BME, MSE) is his research advisor, while he also works closely with Professor Sam Thiagalingam (MED). In the Dennis Lab, Saeboe is working to improve nanomaterials for healthcare. In the future, he hopes for his work will improve breast cancer screening.

Saeboe’s BU Nano Fellowship Topic:  Fluorescent nanoshells as targeted Near IR optical imaging probes for metastatic breast cancer marker CXCR4

In the following video, Saeboe demonstrates how colored quantum dots can be used to highlight tumors in cancer screening.
Here, Saeboe explains how he makes quantum dots in the Dennis Lab.
