Networking
Networking is a skill that aids finding a job when you graduate from dental school or your residency program. The more people you meet and get to know, the more your name will spread, and the more likely the word will echo about potential job opportunities.
Networking is communicating with people about your career goals. For effective networking, you want to reach out to contacts you have, asks questions, and be willing to meet new people. Some components of networking include the professional (“elevator”) pitch, informational interviews as well as LinkedIn and attending career fairs or conferences. Networking is not an opportunity to ask for a job, but rather to seek advice, referrals, and gather information that can help you in your job search. To learn more about networking, attend Career Resources workshops or make an appointment with the Career Resources Manager. Review the following resources on articulating your goals and building your personal brand through LinkedIn.
