Journalism students cover the GOP debate in NH
More than 20 Boston University journalism students, including Broadcast Journalism majors Rachel Wellford ('12) and Alyssa Moni ('12) (shown above), traveled to Hanover, N.H., to cover the Republican Presidential Debate as part of Boston University News Service's ongoing coverage of the 2012 Presidential Elections. Fourteen BU students received credentials to the debate hall and media room through BU alumnus Andy Lack (CFA ’68), CEO of Bloomberg Media Group.
An excerpt from Wellford's report No Knock-outs in GOP Debate:
Instead of taking a spot behind a typical debate-style podium, the candidates sat around a table. Bloomberg in collaboration with the Washington Post created a “kitchen table” debate, designed to keep the candidates from “soap-boxing.”
With Romney considered a favorite son of New Hampshire, the former governor of Massachusetts was predicted to be the victor. Although the moderators, as well as the candidates, focused heavily on Romney, Cain, Huntsman, Gingrich and Santorum took some of the spotlight away from the former governor.
