Dean Linda Wells conferred two very special honors at the first faculty meeting in the fall: the Sensel and Richter Awards.

Dr Joellen Masters is one of CGS’s master teachers, as her students know well, but they might not realize that she is an international expert in Victorian literature.

Every year, the Freshman Essay Contest honors first year students who present complex ideas in lucid and persuasive writing. This year the competition was fiercer than ever, with these three essays singled out from among thousands of essays submitted in classes by CGS Freshmen in the 2010-2011 academic year.

Terriers’ Alford already the top dog. As a follow-up to her award-winning rookie season, BU guard Chantell Alford was named the America East conference’s player of the year.

For Garrett Oliver, brewmaster and one-time aspiring filmmaker, the mental processes behind creating beer and making films are not all that different….The two sides of Oliver’s brain currently work overtime at Brooklyn Brewery, in (where else?) Brooklyn, N.Y. Oliver is both brew-master and vice president of production, and his taste buds and opinions make him a sought-after judge for events like the Great American Beer Festival, the Great British Beer Festival, and the Brewing Industry International Awards. He is a recipient of the highest award given within the U.S. brewing profession, the Brewers Association’s Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Brewing, and in 2007 he was named by Forbes one of the top 10 taste-makers in the country for wine, beer, and spirits.

At the invitation of the CGS Faculty Development Committee, several outstanding CGS professors discussed inquiry-based assignments they have found effective in generating student engagement and more critical student writing.

Prof Vail gives critical overview of the life and writings of the Irish Romantic poet Thomas Moore (1779-1852), with special attention paid to the influence of the 1798 Irish Uprising upon his career.
