Course Overload Authorization Form

Most College of Fine Arts undergraduate degree programs require 128–132 total units, with students typically completing 16–18 units per semester over eight semesters. Students considering a heavier course load are encouraged to plan carefully and consult with their academic advisor.

For the Fall 2026 semester, students may self-enroll for up to 20 units per semester in the MyBU system. Enrollment in more than 20 units requires advisor approval. To request enrollment in 20.5 units or more, please complete the CFA Overload Authorization Form below.

For Fall 2026, the process for undergraduate enrollment overload requests will be as follows:

• Up to 20 units: Students may self-enroll in MyBU. No overload fees apply, and submission of this form is not required.

• 20.5–22.5 units: Students must notify their academic advisor and submit this form.

• 23 units or more: Students must submit this form and email Brendan Hoey, Director of Undergraduate Student Services, at brendan2@bu.edu.
