Event: Wrestling with Freedom
Three powerful one-act plays written and directed by Jacqui Parker, Wrestling with Freedom connects African-American history to the country's present predicament. In play one, the audience is transported to the 18th century and meets Phillis Wheatley. More
Volunteer: Dr. MLK Tribute Concert
Volunteers are needed for Boston Children’s Chorus largest event of the year, the 14th Annual Dr. MLK Jr. Tribute Concert, will be held at Jordan Hall, 30 Gainsborough Street, on January 16. Volunteer duties include the Coat Room, Direction Giving, Ushering, Ticketing, Pre-Reception, and general flexibility. More
Event: Holiday Show and Sale
The Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard will present its annual Holiday Show and Sale December 8-11 in its state-of-the art facility at 224 Western Avenue, Allston, Massachusetts. Nearly seventy artists will present an extraordinary selection of ceramic work in this annual exhibition. More
Artists for Humanity Open Studios

New England Philharmonic Concert
The New England Philharmonic, under the direction of Richard Pittman, will present their annual family concert “The Big Bad Wolf” on December 11 at 3 p.m. at the Tsai Performance Center. The concert’s highlights include Paul Patterson’s ‘Little Red Riding Hood Song Book’ with the Boston City Singers and a performance by the NEP’s 22nd Annual Young Artist Competition winner, Khoi Le, 13, who will perform the first movement of Camille Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor.
The concert will feature William Schuman’s ‘Newsreel in 5 Shots;’ the world premiere of Bernard Hoffer’s ‘Nocturne: The Timber Wolf;’ Andy Vores’ ‘Big Bad Wolf,’ Paul Patterson’s ‘Little Red Riding Hood Song Book,’ with the Boston City Singers, Joshua DeWitte, Director and narrated by WBZ-TV Meteorologist, Eric Fisher.
NEP’s 22nd Young Artist Competition winner, 13-year-old Lexington native and pianist Khoi Le, will perform will perform the first movement of Camille Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor. “Khoi impressed us with his very mature phrasing of the music, for his over-arching concept of the movement, and for his very clear, firm tone on the piano. He's a very mature musician for his young age and a compelling soloist,” said NEP’s Music Director Richard Pittman, who presided over the competition.
Additionally, the concert will feature a gift drive to benefit Cradles to Crayons and an Instrument Petting Zoo, courtesy of Johnson Strings, for the children in the audience to try out instruments after the performance. Cradles to Crayons is asking for new, unwrapped toys and clothing for children aged 0-16. Boots, hats, gloves and coats are preferred.
