Malek Sukkar (ENG’92, Parent COM’23, ENG’25)

Malek Sukkar most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of Averda International, one of the fastest growing environmental services providers in the developing world. He has held this role since 2000 and lately stepped into the role of Executive Chairman. Averda operates across Africa, the Middle East, and in India, serving 35 cities and employing over 15,000 people.

Malek began his career with a high-tech production machinery manufacturer in London. In 1994, he joined Sukkar Engineering Group in Lebanon, and in 2000, these companies were re­grouped under the Averda brand and Malek was appointed CEO. He then relocated to the Middle East to lead and manage the expansion program for Averda. Malek is committed to transforming the way waste is managed and is a founding member of the World Economic Forum’s Platform for Accelerating the Circular Economy. He is leading Averda through a transformative phase of development and is investing heavily in technology, services and innovations to recycle and recover value from a variety of waste streams.

An avid art collector, Malek proactively works to promote art, regionally and across the globe, through the development, support and sponsorship of iconic and gifted artists.
