Bolong Cui became interested in environmental protection in 2008 when the Taihu Lake in his hometown of Wuxi was heavily polluted, negatively impacting the lives and health of the local people. This episode encouraged him to study for a degree in Environmental Sciences at Boston University, in the United States, where he was able to delve into the economic and social impact of environmental deterioration. Later, Cui would pursue a Master’s in Energy Sciences at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, specializing in Renewable Energy.

Upon his return to China, Cui founded the startup Clean Carbon Technology, which does consulting work in the energy, ESG and environmental protection sectors. Likewise, the company focuses on promoting technology transfer and knowledge sharing on environmental protection, renewable energy and climate change between China and other countries. It has introduced blockchain technology for trading CO2 emissions and providing services for companies to reach climate target.

He is part of Forbes 30 Under 30, Class of 2018 and Spain-China Foundation 13th Future Chinese Leaders Program. He worked for ExxonMobil in the sustainability sector.
