What made you choose Boston University?
I was so excited when I realized that I could be in the city of Boston while at Boston University. I loved how urban the school would be and how I could meet so many new people. I also wanted to experience more independence, which being in a city allows for. To add, I was really excited about their new Computing & Data Sciences (CDS) program because it was rapidly developing.
What is the coolest thing you’ve learned since you arrived?
My freshman writing seminar was based on the nature in and around Boston. Therefore, we went on many walks through parks or natural areas and took time to appreciate the environment around us. Of these parks, Amory (Playground) Park is the coolest thing I’ve learned about because it has brought me a sense of connection to the area. Here, I was able to participate in a Community Work Day with neighbors while restoring the sanctuary with new plantings. It was amazing to learn that there are conservation projects like this within Boston.
What is your favorite piece of BU history?
The amount of research and innovation that has come out of Boston University is inspiring. From Alexander Graham Bell’s telephone to the first combined cancer research and teaching lab, I am motivated by BU’s achievements. I’d love to do research on the environment, especially within the city. I know that BU will be greatly supportive of this endeavor, as it has always been a place of exploration.
Why did you choose to be involved in SAA?
A big part of why I came to BU was to be in a new city where I could network with a larger number of alumni. Not only does SAA connect you to alumni in various fields, but SAA also helps with your professional development through their workshops and events. SAA is so supportive for creating a community and building relationships, which I wanted to be a part of. Being involved in SAA would allow me to expand this and foster more connections.
