A message from Wheelock
WHEELOCK COLLEGE OF EDUCATION & HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
Two Silber Way
Boston, MA 02215
September 2021
As we head into a new academic year, we see an educational landscape that in some ways has been vastly changed by COVID-19, and in other ways has not changed at all—and not enough.
With your support, Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development stands ready to educate the leaders we need today, and in doing so, to build a better world for the students of tomorrow.
The flaws and inequities exposed by the pandemic only underscore the importance of strong leadership from practitioners and policymakers. BU Wheelock’s Educational Leadership & Policy Studies program is designed to train exactly those visionary guides, and your gift to support this program will help it thrive.
The stresses of the past year have also emphasized the importance of mental health and counseling services—and our graduate program in this field is among our most popular. Again, your support can make a real difference. Deaf education, STEM equity and inclusion, special education: all these and more are fields in which BU Wheelock shines, and in which you can help us continue the important work of ensuring access to an excellent education for all learners.
Access is an important issue, too, for many of our students. Particularly for those from traditionally underserved communities, the cost of tuition can put a BU Wheelock education out of reach without financial support from us. Yet these are exactly the educators who can best serve their own communities, so your gift for financial aid, particularly for graduate students, can change the lives of our students—and their students in turn.
Some elements of a fully rounded education, of course, go beyond the support provided by traditional financial aid. With your help, students in need can pursue unpaid opportunities in their field without worrying about the cost. In addition, our students need resources to help them launch and develop their careers, so we invite your gifts to provide stipends for practicums, as well as mentorship, career advice, and tips on job opportunities.
At BU Wheelock, we prepare professionals who support the healthy growth, learning, and development of generations to come. I thank you for your generosity, and I hope you’ll help support these leaders with a gift today.
Sincerely,
David J. Chard, PhD
Dean, Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development
