Social cultural impact of COVID-19 in the LatinX community

LatinX community members are among the most affected by the various social, economic, health, and family disruptions caused by COVID-19. As alumni and service providers, we should recognize the mental health consequences that sheltering in place measures, job loss, closing of schools, and general uncertainty this pandemic has caused among the LatinX Community. We, as community members, should be discussing strategies and public health policies that can assist and support the LatinX community.

This discussion will do just that, with featured speakers Luz M López, PhD, MSW, MPH, a Clinical Professor at Boston University School of Social Work and Director of the Global Health Core at the Center for Innovation in Social Work and Health, and alumnus Wilfred W. Labiosa, PhD (CAS’93) co-founder and executive director of Waves Ahead, a Puerto Rican non-profit organization dedicated in working with marginalized and vulnerable sectors of Puerto Rican society, and member of the BU LatinX Advisory Council.
