Neurogenetics

CAS BI 512

Prerequisites: CASNE 203 or CASBI 325, and general chemistry. - Genetics plays an important role in nervous system development, disease and expression of all behaviors. Students in this course gain conceptual understanding of the contributions of genes, environments, and the interplay of these and other factors, to various behaviors. After reviewing concepts in human genetics, we explore methodological approaches to behavioral genetics research, animal studies, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and the candidate gene approaches. Throughout the course we consider traits, physical behaviors, neurodegeneration and psychiatric disorders.
