General Purpose Computing Facilities, ACS, PC Labs

General purpose personal computing labs in the basement of 111 Cummington Street, in Mugar Memorial Library, and in many University residences provide access to a variety of popular PC software and high speed printing.

A centrally administered complex of UNIX servers (collectively known as ACS) provides e-mail services to a community of more than 35,000 students, faculty, and staff. Supported options include PC and Macintosh clients using IMAP and POP, a Web interface (www.bu.edu/webmail), and UNIX clients such as PINE. See www.bu.edu/pcsc/email for detailed information. ACS also offers general access to UNIX computing, Web site hosting, and a broad range of software, including mathematical, statistical, and scientific software; programming languages; and text processing and graphics packages. ACS accounts are available to all faculty, staff, and students. You can open an account at www.bu.edu/computing/accounts/acs or in person at Information Technology's Input/Output Services window in the basement of 111 Cummington Street. Please note that you must present your current Boston University ID at the Input/Output Services Window to complete your application; your account will then normally be available within twelve hours.
