Five BU Wheelock Faculty Promoted

Five BU Wheelock Faculty Promoted
Five faculty members were recently promoted for their significant contributions to BU Wheelock and Boston University. Naomi Caselli and Christina Dobbs received the rank of associate professor with tenure. Pipier Smith-Mumford was promoted to master lecturer, and Lindsey Chapman and William Rodriguez to senior lecturer. Together, these five faculty members represent BU Wheelock’s Deaf Studies, English Education, Special Education, Applied Human Development, and Educational Leadership & Policy Studies programs.
Associate Professor
Naomi Caselli, Deaf Studies

Naomi Caselli is an associate professor of deaf education. She is also the director of the Deaf Center and the AI & Education Initiative at Boston University. In her research, she works to promote the inclusion of deaf people and users of sign languages by investigating the influence of early language experience on deaf children, the responsible use of AI to make the world more accessible to signers, and the structure of sign languages.
Christina Dobbs, English Education

Christina Dobbs, an associate professor in English Education, is also the English Education program director. Her work focuses on academic language development, argumentative writing, and professional development for secondary teachers.
Master Lecturer
Pipier Smith-Mumford, Educational Leadership & Policy Studies

Pipier Smith-Mumford is a master lecturer in educational leadership & policy studies. She is also the field director for BU Wheelock’s Doctor of Education program. Her areas of expertise include diversity, equity, and inclusion, racial justice, and the opportunity gap.
Senior Lecturer
Lindsey Chapman, Special Education

Lindsey Chapman is a senior lecturer in special education. She is also the director of the Special Education program at BU Wheelock. An expert in disability rights and justice, Chapman focuses her scholarship on social perspectives of disability, accessibility, family and community partnerships, and inclusive teacher preparation.
William Rodriguez, Applied Human Development

William Rodriguez, a senior lecturer in applied human development, specializes in youth justice and and advocacy, juvenile law, and positive youth development. A longtime advocate, Rodriguez has worked to create and support several youth justice, social policy, and community engagement initiatives.
