With an AI and education graduate certificate, you’ll be able to apply artificial intelligence in ways that strengthen teaching, support student learning, and improve decision making in schools. The fully online certificate prepares educators to evaluate AI tools with rigor, interpret data responsibly, and lead implementation efforts ground in evidence and strong pedagogical principles.
The online graduate certificate in AI and education is designed for working professionals and is typically completed in two to three semesters. For students seeking an accelerated pathway, the degree may also be completed in two semesters.
Why This Program?
With the AI in education certificate, you’ll become a skilled consumer, educator, and communicator of AI in educational settings. You’ll learn to support disciplinary reasoning, select appropriate tools, design learning activities, and translate research into action. The program consists of seven core courses and a capstone and can be completed part time in as few as 18 months. This certificate program may be applied toward the fully online master’s (EdM) in AI & Education.
Online Coursework and Capstone Experience
Courses are delivered fully online with a combination of synchronous sessions, collaborative design work, and applied assignments that connect directly to students’ professional contexts. Courses include:
- Foundations of AI in Educational Contexts (required)
- AI in preK-12 Teaching and Learning: Pedagogical Applications
- AI and Assessment of Student Learning and Experience
- AI in Education: Historical Perspectives and Design Approaches for Learning
- Research Methods and Evidence in Educational AI
- AI Implementation and Professional Leadership
The culminating research-to-practice capstone will allow you to address a real challenge in your school, district, or educational organization and produce a polished, professional project, such as an implementation plan, visual data narrative, evaluation brief, or policy guidance document.

AI in education degree graduates are prepared to make informed decisions about how to use AI, prioritizing teacher judgment, student well-being, and long-term sustainability. You’ll be prepared for roles in schools, districts, and other educational settings, as well as in data, privacy, and security, educational partnerships, and educational policy, governance, and research. These roles include:
- Elementary classroom teacher with AI-enhanced instructional practice
- Secondary science, social studies, ELA or mathematics teacher using AI to support disciplinary reasoning and feeback
