Overview

Dr. Michelle Amazeen, faculty in the Boston University College of Communication, seeks an undergraduate research assistant for Fall 2026 to support the Climate Disinformation Studies project.

Our team investigates how corporate interests—particularly fossil fuel and agricultural companies—shape climate narratives through native advertising and sponsored content in news media. We examine how these narratives influence public perception, policy attitudes, and behavioral intentions. We also design and test interventions that help people recognize and resist these narratives.

This is an ideal role for students interested in climate justice, media literacy, misinformation research, or public health communication.

Research assistant role
The student selected for this role will be involved in multiple stages of the project. They will assist with the systematic collection and organization of agricultural native advertisements from major news outlets. They will conduct literature reviews on how influencers effectively counter misinformation and propose an influencer-driven intervention campaign. They will work directly with Dr. Amazeen along with other members of the Climate Disinformation team.

Position details
Time commitment: 10 hours per week (flexible schedule, negotiable)
Compensation: $1,500 for the fall semester
Format: Combination of independent work and collaborative team meetings
Required: Bi-weekly in-person check-ins (schedule negotiable; during 9 a.m.–5 p.m. EST)
