Natalia Frumkin, a Computer Engineering major, is conducting research with Dr. Prakash Ishwar and Dr. Janusz Konrad (Electrical and Computer Engineering) to develop a privacy-preserving indoor localization and tracking system using active light transport analysis. Such a system can enable future “smart rooms” to sense and interact with occupants, decrease energy usage and improve productivity and health.
-
Alison Knasin, a Chemistry major, is working with with Dr. John Caradonna (CAS Chemistry), focusing on phenylalanine hydroxylase (PheH), an amino acid hydroxylase that converts L-phenylalanine into L-tyrosine. The first project targets two particular missense mutations within the PheH gene. The second project examines the influence of allosteric control of oxygen activation in the active site of PheH.
-
Katya Leidig, an Astrophysics major, is working with Dr. Alan Marscher (CAS Astronomy) on the Project VLBA-BU-Blazar.
-
Amina Li, a Physics major, is working with with Dr. Robert Carey (CAS Physics) on a project entitled “Measurement of K+ → pi+ nu nubar at the CERN SPS”.
-
Helen Lindsay, a Mechanical Engineering major, is working with Dr. Muhammad Zaman (CAS Biomedical Engineering) on a project entitled “Pre-eclampsia Rapid Diagnostic”.
-
Katherine Mercurio, a Mathematics major, is working with with Dr. Lynsey Gibbons (SED Mathematics Education) on a project entitled “Supporting Teachers’ and Students’ Identities as Mathematical Thinkers”.
-
Sheila Sagear, an Astrophysics major, is working with Dr. Philip Muirhead (CAS Astronomy) on a project entitled “The K2 Planet Search: Searching for Evidence of Exoplanets around Ultracool Dwarfs”.
-
Rebecca Williams, a Biomedical Engineering major, is working with Dr. Katherine Yanhang Zhang (ENG Mechanical Engineering) on a project entitled “A study on the contribution of Activated Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells (VSMCs) to arterial stiffness using a Pressure Myograph system to test mechanical pressure/ force characteristics”.
