Please Note: The BU 802.1x wireless network will be retired in the near future. Once retired, eduroam will be the primary wireless network at Boston University.

With this in mind, we encourage early adoption of the BU eduroam wireless network.

As you're considering what devices to purchase for your on-campus residence, please note that not all wireless-capable devices support BU's wireless or wired networks.

The device is not supported and will not work on campus if it:

  • Does not support enterprise authentication with both a username and password
  • Does not have an ethernet port

Examples of unsupported devices include, but are not limited to:

  • Amazon Echo (including Echo Dot)
  • Amazon Fire TV Stick
  • Apple Watch (when disconnected from the iPhone)
  • Wireless printers
  • Roku Streaming Stick
  • Google Home
  • Chromecast
  • Vizio Smart TVs
  • Smart Plugs
  • Smart Lights/Philips Hue
  • Home automation tools/appliances
