Call for Proposals: P20 Health Disparities

The BU-BMC Cancer Center is issuing a call for pre-proposals from BMC, BUSM, BUSPH and BU-CRC based investigators to address cancer health disparities. NCI has issued an RFA (summary linked below) to support a three year P20 planning grant at $800K/year to prepare for a full P50 SPORE application. We anticipate that this and similar grants will lay the groundwork for our eventual application to NCI for Comprehensive Cancer Center designation.

To facilitate our application, we are asking investigators to participate in a selection process that will identify the strongest projects to move forward in our institution’s P20 application in June 2020. Cores, and potentially institutional funding, will be available to support the individual Projects. The projects need not be integrated with each other at this planning stage. Please refer to the RFA for details.

In addition to a focus on health disparities, priorities for the P20 are as follows:

  • Cross-disciplinary teams: each project must have a laboratory-based and clinical lead investigator. While teams based at BU/BMC are encouraged, external collaborators may be included when appropriate.
  • Projects must have translational focus, in addition to a focus on health disparities.
  • Given currently funded P20 grants in breast and prostate cancer, projects focused in other areas such as head and neck cancer, lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, or hematologic malignancies are strongly encouraged.

Instructions: Please prepare and submit an Aims page to Erin McCarthy by Wednesday, November 27, 2019. Proposals will be reviewed by the Cancer Center Executive Committee, in preparation for a panel to review proposals, share ideas, and select projects to move forward in the grant.

Please contact Gerald Denis with any questions you might have about this call for pre-proposals.
