Office of Research Diversity Statement

The mission of the Office of Research is to support and advance the excellence of research and scholarship across all of Boston University’s campuses as well as cultivate the success of diverse research teams to address society’s biggest challenges. We believe that enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in the broader research enterprise improves our ability to carry out this mission, while also attracting and retaining the best talent.

We will honor the different and unique identities of the faculty, staff, and students in our enterprise. We will set an expectation that our reporting areas and collaborators will nurture an accessible, welcoming, and respectful environment for all members of the Boston University research community. We will also regularly review our services and systems and adapt them as needed to reflect the evolving environments and work styles of those we serve and with whom we collaborate.

Harassment, Safety & Ethics Reporting: If you experience or witness discrimination, harassment, bias, or a violation of University policy, among other issues, here is a list of resources to which you can turn. 

Grants, Trainings, and Workshops: Opportunities to get involved with DEI at BU, including consultations, workshops, and grants for advancing DEI work on campus.

Self-Guided Education: BU Diversity & Inclusion has created digital, self-guided resources that allow folks to develop DEI knowledge and skills at their own pace. From a curated Living Language Guide exploring DEI concepts, to Learning Toolkits that offer deep dives into specific particular topics, and on-demand access to our archive of BU D&I Sponsored Events, this page is a valuable self-directed education resource.

Office of Research DEI Committee

The Office of Research DEI Committee is composed of staff from across research support offices who work to uphold and advance the office’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. They work behind-the-scenes to compile resources, plan events, spearhead new initiatives, and guide decision making across BU’s research support areas.
