Nominations are now open for the 2025 BU Innovator of the Year! Do you know a BU researcher whose discoveries are impacting the world for the better? Is there somebody leading your field to new horizons and meeting unmet needs? We want to hear from you!

The Innovator of the Year Award, presented annually by BU Technology Development, recognizes an outstanding faculty member who has translated world-class research into an invention or innovation that benefits humankind. Past winners include:

  • Darrell Kotton, for his cutting-edge work in pioneering lung disease treatments with stem cell technology and accelerating scientific discovery with open-access resources;
  • Thomas Bifano, for his pioneering devices to advance astronomy, microscopy, and eye exams; and
  • Xin Zhang, for her translational research on use of metamaterials in MRI, acoustic technologies.

Self-nominations are welcome. Eligible faculty have translated peer-recognized research into products or services of significant value to society, with great potential for practical use, and covered by BU intellectual property protections.
