CRC Biometric Research Training Workshops for Spring 2020

The Communication Research Center (CRC) at Boston University is equipped with the technology, software, facilities, and expertise to aid researchers in conducting studies using biometric methods. There is vast potential for researchers of various disciplines to utilize these methods in order to glean more holistic insights into how their respondents feel about and behave towards particular stimuli.

Led by the CRC’s Lab & Research Manager, Susie Blair, these workshops will focus on three different biometric modules offered via the iMotions biometric research platform—Facial Expression Analysis, Eye Tracking, and Galvanic Skin Response. Each module will have one dedicated two-hour workshop.

Facial Expression Analysis: Thursday, March 5

Eye Tracking: Friday, March 20

Galvanic Skin Response: Friday, March 27

All workshops run from 1 – 3 p.m.

In each of these workshops, participants will…

  • Learn the theoretical and technical basics of the biometric tool
  • Discover the ways in which the biometric tool can be used to augment traditional research methods (e.g., focus groups, interviews, and surveys) to form a more nuanced understanding of respondent reactions and behaviors
  • See the various forms of data that can be gathered via the biometric tool
  • Learn best practices for collecting usable and reliable biometric data
  • Conduct a mock iMotions study using the biometric tool
  • Analyze aggregate and individual biometric data using Excel to draw preliminary conclusions

Please note that attendance for each workshop will be capped at 12 people.
