Memo: Town Halls on International Collaboration
TO: | Boston University Faculty and Staff |
FROM: | Gloria Waters, Vice President and Associate Provost for Research ![]() |
DATE: | September 24, 2019 |
SUBJECT: | Town Halls on International Collaboration |
In the past year, federal funding agencies have asked researchers to become more vigilant in the disclosure of international collaborations, affiliations, and activities to protect the integrity of US-based research and intellectual property. At BU, we are actively working to safeguard our international partnerships by maintaining the highest standards of transparency.
Today, we are closely monitoring guidance coming out from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and other agencies. We are asking that faculty and department administrators complete all aspects of federal grants thoroughly, especially items related to foreign components. We also ask that you remain mindful of all requirements related to federal reporting, disclosures of conflicts of interest and intellectual property, export control, and research agreements.
Finally, we strongly encourage you to stay abreast of current agency regulations and best practices. While the situation continues to develop, we have posted initial guidance and FAQs to the Research Support site and will update this page as we learn more.
You’re Invited: Town Halls
In the coming month, we will be hosting two town halls for faculty and department administrators to learn more and ask questions. Please consider attending or sending a representative from your department:
- Charles River Campus: October 16, 3:30-5 pm
- Medical Campus: October 30, 9-10:30 am
Please RSVP here for the town halls.
Thank you for your continued attention to this developing situation. We look forward to seeing you at a town hall in the coming weeks.
