Research Activities of the Computational Electronics Group at Boston University

Abstract:

In this talk we will present the research activities of the Computational Electronics Group at Boston University in the area of semiconductor materials and device simulation. We will present the recent work we performed to understand the properties of nitrides and antimondes semiconductor alloys that are important for a number of device applications. We will outline the use of these alloys in detector design and the potential use of machine learning techniques to understand and optimize optimize device performance. Finally we will introduce the newly created Center for Semiconductor Modelling and the opportunities for collaborations with industry, academia and federal organizations, available within the center.

Bio:

Enrico Bellotti received the ”Laurea in Ingegneria Electtronica” from Politecnico di Milano, Milano, Italy, in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA, in 1999. He has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Boston University since September 2000, initially as an Assistant Professor (2000–2006) then with the rank of an Associate Professor (2006–2012), and Professor since 2013. Dr. Bellotti has over 20-year experience in the area of computational electronics. He has developed high performance simulation codes to study carrier transport in a variety of semiconductor material systems and related devices. Dr. Bellotti has performed research in the area of UV optoelectronics, IR photodetector arrays, III-Nitride materials and devices, Oxide materials and devices, and germanium based compounds and related devices. He has authored more than 100 journal papers, 80 conference papers, and 4 book chapters. He is the holder of three U.S. patents. Dr. Bellotti was a recipient of the 2003 ONR Young Investigator Program Award and the 2005 NSF CAREER Award. He is currently the Director of the ARL Consortium for Semiconductor Modelling and CoPI of the ARL MSME Collaborative Research Alliance.
