Launch of National Search for Next Associate Provost and Dean of Students
From Dr. Jean Morrison, University Provost and Chief Academic Officer
This past spring, we announced plans for a national search to recruit a new associate provost and dean of students at Boston University. In order to help identify the next leader for this important University-wide position, I have appointed a search committee that, over the coming months, will develop an applicant pool, and review and recommend candidates.
I am grateful that Natalie McKnight, dean of the College of General Studies and professor of humanities, has agreed to chair this committee, whose membership is listed below. The committee will reach out to all the various stakeholders – in particular to our students – to hear their perspectives on the qualities that are important for the next associate provost and dean of students. The search for the next dean of students is among the most important tasks we undertake as a community. The role is central to countless efforts – operationally and culturally – across our residential learning community, from helping students acclimate to life at BU, to setting and regulating standards for conduct and collegiality, and working to ensure the University experience is accessible and welcoming to those of all backgrounds and abilities. The next dean of students will help lead and implement many of the student- and community-focused priorities in our strategic plan and oversee a portfolio of offices critical to the BU experience including the Community Service Center, Disability & Access Services, the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground, Judicial Affairs, Orientation, Residence Life, and Student Activities.
I look forward to reporting back over the coming months on the progress being made on this search. In the meantime, I’d like to give special thanks to Jason Campbell-Foster, who is serving as interim associate provost and dean of students.
