Quo Vadis, Europe? A Lecture by Joachim Fritz-Vannahme

  • Starts: 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2016
  • Ends: 8:30 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2016
Joachim Fritz-Vannahme, director of the think tank Europe’s Future at the Bertelsmann Stiftung, discusses the future of Europe, what “Europe” means, and what its next steps ought to be. These are important matters also for Americans, given the interdependence of the global economy, the global nature of the challenges that confront us, and the different routes the world may take depending on the path Europe chooses. Fritz-Vannahme is one of the most sought-after experts on Europe. A foreign correspondent by trade, he was previously Deputy Editor-In-Chief and European Editor in Brussels for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit, where he worked for more than fifteen years, as well as on the ground in Paris, Brussels and Bonn. A strong supporter of the European Union, Fritz-Vannahme has been director of the Europe's Future program at the Bertelsmann Stiftung since 2007. Moderated by Vivien Schmidt, Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University, and Founding Director of BU’s Center for the Study of Europe. Prof. Schmidt's research focuses on European political economy, institutions, democracy, and political theory. Free & Open to the Public | Reception to Follow This event takes place as part of a new initiative entitled "Interferences," a series of events on issues pertinent to democratic politics in the US and Europe. Organized as part of EU Futures, a series of conversations exploring the emerging future in Europe. The EU Futures project is supported by a Getting to Know Europe Grant from the European Commission Delegation in Washington, DC.
