Christopher Oates

Chris Oates’s research focus is on the practice and methodology of political risk. He is the Founder of Two Lanterns Advisory, a consultancy focused on incorporating political risk methods into corporate and government organizations. He is an Advisor in analytical tradecraft to Oxford Analytica, where he was previously an Associate in the Advisory practice, leading engagements with clients such as the European Parliament, US Department of Defense, multinational corporations and financial institutions. He has also been the North America Analyst for the Oxford Analytica Daily Brief, managing analysis on the domestic politics, foreign policy, and economy of the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Chris received his PhD at Oxford University, where he studied the role played by the United States in influencing European Union security policy and the theoretical implications of the overlap between European membership in NATO and the EU. He received his BA with Honors and Magna cum Laude from Brown University, where he majored in Political Science and Classics.

Chris has also worked in business intelligence, in Iraqi Kurdistan, and in political campaigns in Massachusetts.
