Green Industrial Policy in the Global South

  • Starts: 8:30 am on Wednesday, March 5, 2025
  • Ends: 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 5, 2025

As countries struggle to meet existing global and national development goals, and as the costs of climate inaction mount, there is a surge in policy discourse and experimentation with green industrial policy.

While investment-led strategies toward just, green structural transformations will vary country to country - dependent on the economy and climate risk exposure - one thing is true for all Global South countries: they are operating within a global financial and trade architecture that is biased against them in general and toward powerful political and carbon-intensive economic activity in particular.

What are the crucial ingredients for a structural transformation powered through green industrial policy? How can the macroeconomic, trade and financial constraints, at the national and international levels, be relaxed? What political conflicts and trade-offs could hinder implementation? And what opportunities are there for enhanced, and even unprecedented, international cooperation?

On Wednesday, March 5 from 8:30-10:00AM, join us for an expert panel on green industrial policy in the Global South featuring scholars, practitioners and policymakers from around the world.

Breakfast will be available from 8:30-9:00AM. This event is co-sponsored by the Boston University Global Development Policy Center and the Boston University Pardee School of Global Studies.
