Professional Development Events

In addition to holding individual advising appointments and providing students with substantive resources related to their job or internship search, the LLM Professional Development Office organizes a range of workshops and events each academic year, including information sessions, career panels, networking opportunities and hands-on workshops. During the pandemic, these programs may be offered remotely.

Our programs include workshops, panels and Q&A sessions on:

  • How to Find a Job in the U.S.
  • How to Write a U.S. Resume and Resume Workshop
  • How to Write a U.S. Cover Letter
  • The New York Bar Exam
  • The Massachusetts Bar Exam
  • How to Communicate with Professors and Employers
  • How to Find Pro Bono Work
  • The International Student Interview Program (ISIP)
  • The American Law Internship Program (ALIP)
  • How to Interview
  • How to Network and Use LinkedIn
  • How to Get a U.S. Work Visa
  • Optional Practical Training (OPT)
  • How To Get a Job Through a Legal Recruiter

We frequently invite distinguished alumni and other lawyers and law-related professionals to campus to speak to LLMs in a variety of formats, so students can get a wide range of job search advice and make valuable networking contacts.

In addition to our many on-campus career-related events, we coordinate a wide variety of programs, events and networking opportunities for LLMs outside of campus, in Boston and beyond. For example, our LLM Discovery Series is designed to expose American Law Program LLMs to key aspects of US legal practice. Discovery Series events feature attorneys and judges, speaking about their work, including its international dimensions. Past visits have included law firm receptions with senior lawyers, meetings with in-house attorneys at local companies and visits with a federal judge at the U.S. District Court in Boston.

Please note that our regular events schedule has been impacted by the pandemic.
