A Community United by Passion and Purpose
From the Dean’s Desk
At BU Law, our alumni share more than a degree; they are bound by a deep passion for the law and a strong sense of purpose that guides them in every corner of the profession. Whether they are shaping policy, advocating for justice, leading global law firms, advising Fortune 500 companies, or using their legal expertise in new and unexpected ways, their work is driven by a commitment to making an impact.
Over the past year, I have had the privilege of witnessing this legacy in action as we welcomed extraordinary alumni and friends back to BU Law. Their insights and experiences have inspired our students, underscoring the versatility of a BU Law education and the many ways in which legal professionals can leave a lasting mark on the world.
A powerful example is the Congresswoman Barbara Jordan Speaker Series on Race, Law, and Inequality, where this year’s speakers—Adrianna Quintero (’96), Paulette Brown and Ghillaine Reid (’95), and Don Calloway (’05)—examined critical issues at the intersection of law, equity, and justice. Their perspectives highlighted the many ways legal professionals—whether in public service, private practice, or business—can drive progress and effect meaningful change.
We also had the great honor of hosting Judge Robert Pratt as our jurist in residence. A longtime federal judge, Judge Pratt has dedicated his career to upholding fairness and equity in the legal system. His time with us was not only an opportunity for students to learn from his wisdom but also a powerful reminder that the law, when approached with integrity and purpose, is a living force capable of profound impact.
Equally inspiring was the opportunity to celebrate Roger Theodoredis (’83), chief legal officer and general counsel at Chipotle, and Mark Morris (’83), chair of Fox Rothschild LLP, at the Distinguished Alumni Dinner. Their illustrious careers are proof that purpose-driven leadership comes in many forms and carry the message that the law is not just a career, it is also a tool for transformation.
Our graduates are not defined by where they work but by the heart and commitment they bring to their work.
Each of these moments reinforced something that makes BU Law truly special: our graduates are not defined by where they work but by the heart and commitment they bring to their work. The power of a BU Law education lies in its ability to prepare students to lead, advocate, and innovate in ways that matter—to them, to their clients, and to society.
As I reflect on these remarkable visits and conversations, I am filled with pride, not just in the individuals we have honored but also in the community that nurtures them. At BU Law, we equip our students with the skills to succeed, the values needed to practice and lead with integrity, and the confidence to forge their own paths. The alumni who came before them serve as role models and as proof of what is possible when passion and purpose guide a career.
Looking ahead, this legacy of passion and purpose will only continue to grow. Today’s students are eager to build on the tradition that has shaped BU Law—a tradition of excellence, leadership, and service that extends far beyond the classroom. As they step forward into their own futures, they will do so with the same drive, ambition, and dedication that generations of alumni have embodied. BU Law is more than a law school; it is a place where values are lived, where futures are shaped, and where the power of a legal education is harnessed to change the world—one case, one client, and one bold idea at a time.
