Partner University: Université Panthéon-Assas
Program Length: 6 Semesters
Through this program abroad, students have the opportunity to receive both the JD degree from BU School of Law and an LLM in European Law from Université Panthéon-Assas in Paris, France.
Students in the program complete a full year of study at the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II), one of the world’s foremost legal institutions. Originally part of the Sorbonne Law School, Paris II is renowned for its excellence in international and comparative law. This program is available to qualified 3L students, and instruction is offered entirely in English.
Program Requirements
The program will permit qualified, regularly matriculated third-year students at BU Law to spend an entire academic year at Paris II, enrolled in the LLM in European Law Program at the European College of Paris at Paris II.
Program Timing
Students participating in the program will study at Paris II for a full academic year (approximately from October to mid-May).
Financial Arrangements
BU Law students will pay Boston University’s regular tuition and any applicable fees to Boston University and they will not be charged tuition or fees (including application fees) at Paris II.
Students will be responsible for the costs of their own room and board, travel and related (e.g., visa) expenses to and from Paris II, the cost of any course materials and similar items, the cost of medical insurance and medical care, and their own personal expenses. Eligibility to participate in the program requires that students’ medical insurance coverage satisfies Paris II’s requirements.
Student Status
All students participating in the program shall receive all of the benefits and privileges and shall have all of the rights and responsibilities that Paris II establishes for its full-time, matriculated LLM degree students.
Instruction and Assessments
The performance of BU Law students participating in the program will be evaluated in the first instance by the teachers instructing in the Paris II LLM program. Promptly after a student completes the program, Paris II will inform BU Law of the grades the student received for each course. BU Law will then determine, in its sole judgment, the Boston University credits and grades to be awarded to a BU Law student participating in the program.
Professional Training
BU Law students will have access to all Paris II career services and can seek advice on career matters from the Paris II Program Director.
Housing
Paris II will assist BU Law students in their search for housing in Paris. Paris II will provide BU Law with information concerning the availability, cost, location, and quality of suitable housing in Paris, including any on-campus accommodations, with sufficient lead time so that BU Law students can arrange their housing before commencement of the program term.
Admissions Requirements
BU Law may nominate up to two (2) qualified third-year students to study at Paris II. The nominated BU Law student(s) will have completed a formal application process and received approval based on the student’s academic standing and prospect for successful performance. The nominated student(s) will then complete any necessary Paris II application form(s), provided by Paris II, to be reviewed for final selection by the Director of the LLM in European Law Program at Paris II.
Formal admissions to the program are processed through the Graduate & International Programs Office.
Students interested in applying to the program should follow the Study Abroad application procedures as outlined on the Study Abroad Programs Web site.
