Resources for Graduate Students

The year you spend as an LLM or master’s degree student at BU Law is often described as a year of very hard work – and very hard play. The first thing you’ll notice is that there’s never a dull moment at BU Law. As a full member of BU Law’s community, you’ll actively participate in extracurricular activities and events that define BU Law’s high-energy, positive, dynamic learning environment, whether at the law school itself or elsewhere on BU’s bustling, urban Charles River Campus.

Experiential Learning

To bring our foreign-trained students in touch with the world of U.S. legal practice, we organize an annual “Discovery Series,” consisting of visits to law firms, companies, courthouses, and government agencies where BU Law alumni practice.

You may also volunteer to participate in BU Law’s Pro Bono Program, enabling you to use your legal skills in a public interest setting, and receive recognition on your transcript for such work.

Students in the Graduate Tax Program may be eligible to participate in an externship program with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.

Learning Outside the Classroom

As an LLM, you’ll be invited to join any of the 30-plus JD student organizations ranging from the International Law Society to the Communication, Entertainment and Sports Law Association, allowing you to explore mutual areas of interests with JDs. Each year, two LLM students are elected to serve in a non-voting capacity on BU Law’s Student Government Association, keeping the LLM community involved and informed about campus events and issues.done

Getting Out and About

Beyond the JD-organized social events and activities open to LLM students, Graduate & International Programs and other graduate programs regularly host events and excursions that connect you to Boston and New England’s myriad diversions – and that connect you to each other:

  • Traditional New England clambake supper
  • International “Pot Luck” dinner
  • LLM pub nights at the BU pub and other local establishments
  • Internationally themed dinners at local restaurants
  • Red Sox outing at Fenway Park
  • Boston Celtics outing at TD Garden

Sports clubs and BU’s state-of-the art Fitness and Recreation Facility compete aggressively for your leisure time, too.

As a graduate student at BU Law, you will be enriched 24/7, both inside and outside of the classroom.
