Admissions Menu Options – Status |
Explanation |
File Sent to ISSO – Hand Delivered |
Admissions file is sent to ISSO via in-person delivery by admitting department staff or student worker to initiate review and processing. |
File Sent to ISSO – Interdepartmental |
Admissions file is sent to ISSO via interdepartmental mail to initiate review and processing. |
File Sent to ISSO – Courier/Mail |
Admissions file is sent to ISSO via postal mail to initiate review and processing. |
Sent to ISSO – Supplementary document/Information |
Additional documents/information sent to ISSO generally to complete file so ISSO can resume processing. |
ISSO Menu Options – Status |
Explanation |
File Received at ISSO |
The file has been received at ISSO and the 10 business days processing time begins. If file is incomplete or requires additional processing, it will be longer than 10 business days. |
File Reviewed – ISSO will create immigration doc |
The file has been reviewed and has been is complete. ISSO sends information to SEVIS to create SEVIS record and requests I-20 or DS-2019. |
File Reviewed – ISSO will request dependent UID |
ISSO will initiate request for dependent UID and will continue processing after Office of the University Registrar (OUR) establishes dependent record. |
File Reviewed – ISSO will process name correction |
Name on record does not match passport. ISSO will process a name correction. |
File Reviewed – ISSO will contact student |
ISSO will follow-up with student directly. |
File Reviewed – Incomplete (see comments) |
ISSO will note in the “comments” box the reason why the file is incomplete. |
ISSO Issued I-20 |
The I-20 is ready for either mailing or pick-up based on coversheet instructions from department or subsequent, updated instructions from department or student. |
ISSO Issued DS-2019 |
The DS-2019 is ready for either mailing or pick up based on coversheet instructions from department or subsequent, updated instructions from department or student. |
Duplicate/Corrected Immigration Doc in process |
ISSO sends information to SEVIS to request a duplicate or corrected I-20 or DS-2019. |
ISSO Sent Transfer Form and Instructions |
Initial ISSO review is complete and SEVIS transfer form and instructions have been sent to the student. Processing will resume after the completed from has been returned to ISSO and the SEVIS record has been transferred to BU. |
ISSO Sent “No Visa Document” Information |
Initial ISSO review is complete and no immigration document will be issued by ISSO. The “No Visa Document” information is sent to the student. |
ISSO Sent “Continuing BU Student” Information |
Initial ISSO review is complete and the “Continuing BU Student” information has been sent to the student. Processing will resume after the completion of the student’s current program or completion of their OPT/AT. |
ISSO Sent “Options for Change Status” Information |
Initial ISSO review is complete. ISSO contacted the student to assist with change to immigration status processing if necessary. |
SEVIS Transfer Release date (see comments)

The “comments” box indicates the date the SEVIS record is/will be transferred to BU from the student’s previous institution. The immigration document will be issued within 10 business days if file is complete. |
BU Student Completion Date (see comments) | The “comments” box indicates the date a student will conclude his/her current program or the completion date of OPT/AT. The immigration document will be issued will be issued after the completion of the student’s current program or completion of their OPT/AT |
ISSO requested Additional Information/Document | Documents or information requested may need to be supplied by the department or by the student. ISSO will email department or the student. The “comments” box will include information about the request. |
Supplementary Document/Information Received | Any additional document or information received at ISSO after the initial file was received. It includes any missing documents/information which may complete the file and may allow ISSO to resume processing. |
Document picked up at ISSO (see comments) | The “comments” box indicates the name of the person who picked up the student’s immigration document. |
