Gerald Tsai Jr. Fitness Center

It’s fun to keep fit in our 18,000-square-foot weight training and cardiovascular conditioning area. You’ll find the latest in exercise equipment, from free weights to selectorized weight systems, to treadmills and ellipticals.

Aquatics Center

Two pools, a lazy river, and a whirlpool hot tub create the perfect venue for learning to swim, exercising, swimming laps, improving on your technique, and just plain relaxing.

Barreca Climbing Wall

The 30-foot-tall Barreca Climbing Wall boasts eight top-rope belay stations as well as a 12-foot-high bouldering structure. With routes ranging greatly in difficultly, the Wall is an ideal playground for both the beginner and the experienced climber.

Dance Theater

The 225-seat Boston University Dance Theater is a state-of-the-art performance space, equipped with amenities that make it an ideal teaching environment, excellent concert hall, and exceptional facility for special events.

Elevated Running Track

A perfect escape from the New England winters, our 1/7th-mile indoor running and walking track is suspended over our 4-Court Gymnasium and Fitness Center. Ideal for the year-round trainer and a great spot for a lunch walk with a colleague, the track is a popular place to be. We also recommend getting up there to see the sun set while looking down Commonwealth Avenue, it’s a beautiful place to run laps! The third floor is also home to stationary bikes, a stretching area with equipment, and speed and heavy bags.

Courts & Gymnasia

The FitRec facility is proud to have ample gymnasium space. With seven courts, you’ll find plenty of places to play whatever you may want to play. The 3-Court Gymnasium located on Lower Level 1 is ideal for indoor soccer and floor hockey, as well as basketball and badminton. The 4-Court Gymnasium is an impressive space, ideal for basketball and volleyball, and is located on the second floor. All of the courts can be divided for added flexibility and programming. Whether you’re involved in intramural sports, play recreationally, or just want a quick pickup game with friends, the gymnasium space at FitRec will suit your needs.

Multipurpose Fitness Studios

Most of our group exercises classes find a home in one of our multipurpose fitness studios, located throughout the facility. We have spaces specifically suited for dance, yoga, aerobics, Pilates, martial arts, and more. In addition, we have a group cycling studio.

Racquetball & Squash Courts

For the court sports enthusiasts, the FitRec facility boasts three racquetball and three international squash courts on Lower Level 2. FitRec members can reserve space time on a first-come, first-served basis. Instructional classes are also offered each semester that are ideal for everyone from beginners to experienced players looking to improve their technique.

Pro Shop

Located on Lower Level 1, the Pro Shop has all of the necessary items for your workout needs. Choose from the latest styles in BU gear to a wide selection of aquatic, court sports, and general fitness equipment. This is where you’ll exchange your towels if you are enrolled in towel service, and where you’ll pick up a locker rental.

Sailing Pavilion

Located on the beautiful Charles River, the Sailing Pavilion is open to the BU Community as well as the general public for recreational sailing and other boating. All are invited to join our sailing program by taking an instructional sailing class or purchasing a sailing card.

Track & Tennis Center

Members of the Fitness & Recreation Center also gain access to the Track & Tennis Center, located at 100 Ashford Street. The Track & Tennis Center (TTC) features a banked six-lane, 200-meter indoor track, an exterior flat jogging lane, tennis courts, golf range (for recreational class only), and locker rooms with day-use lockers.

Fitness at Fenway

Students living in BU Housing on the Fenway campus now have access to a fitness facility with over 25 brand-new pieces of state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment.

Walter Brown Arena

Members of the Fitness & Recreation Center also gain access to Walter Brown Arena, located at 285 Babcock Street. Available at specific times each week from September–April, Walter Brown Arena features a regulation ice hockey rink, skate rental shop, and sharpening services. Music and skate guards staff provided during open skate. For those interested in renting the ice and skate shop for a party or staff outing, please contact the BU Athletic Facilities Office at 617-353-4632 during regular business hours.

New Balance Field

As Boston University’s newest athletic addition, New Balance Field is a state-of-the-art stadium complex, home to the women’s field hockey team, as well as numerous club sports and intramural leagues. Located on Babcock Street, the 110,000-square-foot field accommodates 500 spectators and has an advanced watering system.

Nickerson Field

The historic Nickerson Field, once the home of the Boston Braves National League baseball club, is now home to the men’s and women’s varsity soccer teams, as well as the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. It is also the playing site for many club sports and intramural leagues. Nickerson Field, and the track that surrounds the field, is open for informal recreation between 9 am and sundown each day when not previously scheduled. Both the field and the track are closed during all formal competitions. To reserve this facility for a private event or function, please call the Case Center at 617-353-4632.
